Programs on start menu disappeared
There is so much misinformation on the Web, we wanted to clear up this stuff about Event Viewer. After the latest windows 10 upgrade I lost my windows menu. I tried the tablet mode but that did not work at all.
I can right click on the start button an it works but not the left click to get the menu. Any other suggestions I might be able to do would be greatly appreciated. Can you post a screen shot?
To make a long story short I was at the end of my rope in trying to get my computer working again. I tried the repair angle an that did some good but still no menu at all plus some files would not come up either. What I did was initiated a new restore point an restored my operating system to that point, which was before the big upgrade from Microsoft. Everything seems to be working fine again. In reply to A. User's post on May 25, I have the same problem as the user above I think and the remedy you suggest doesn't work, as you suggest to do exactly the thing that isn't working: I Press Windows logo key on the keyboard and there is NO All apps option in the list.

Are you sure you have picked the right subkey to tweak that way? Also, I'm curious but don't have your customization to try this with, can you navigate to your customized subfolder hierarchy by using the shell: prefix? Do you leave the Common Start Menu variable name in its usual place to make that work?
Then it would appear that the extra subkeys in the registry to try to match the external representation would be superfluous and in fact may be causing confusion.

So, my speculation was: did it really need the stuff you added in the registry to do that? There are a number of reasons why programs go missing from the Start Menu after upgrading to Windows 10 - I'll try and shed some light. If a program is not compatible with Windows 10 , it will not be imported when you proceed with the Windows 10 upgrade. This is especially true with some antivirus programs.
To get around this problem, you can download the latest version of the program online the Internet and hope that it is compatible with Windows If not, you will need to find a replacement program that performs a similar function which is compatible with Windows I have written about this before; please refer to this article.
