Jisatsu Circle is a horror manga that combines its suicide culture and a theme seen in many Japanese horror material: the "cycle" of a deadly legacy to others. If you are just new to Japanese horror fiction, then Jisatsu Circle or Suicide Club is a really, really weird material to read. The gore may be too much. But there are numerous titles which are much weirder and gorier than this.

What gives Suicide Club a slight edge over the others is its tone of an unknown evil lurking, perhaps in the subway, or in a computer screen at midnight, or in each tattoed earlobe. I have had the same feels while watching The Ring. But besides that, Jisatsu Circle from a technical standpoint is pretty much a straightforward story of an unending cycle of suicide, with a subtle commentary about Japan's Internet and prostitutuon cultures. Halfway through the story, everything is revealed and unlike other horror stories, there's no twist at the end.

Mar 27, Richa rated it really liked it. Rating: 3. The manga was originally meant to follow the film, however, Sono asked Usamaru Furuya to put his own spin on the story, giving the franchise a fresh makeover and a new plotline. Having not watched the original film, reading Jisatsu Circle was my first look into this franchise and I was a little hesitant. It took me a while to decide if I would read the manga or watch the fil Rating: 3. It took me a while to decide if I would read the manga or watch the film first and I finally decided on the manga as it was a somewhat 'alternate universe' to the original creation.

I surprisingly enjoyed this. Following the story of a suicide club with an opening of fifty-five high school girls jumping in front of a high-speed train, this manga starts things off fast and then immediately slows them down. Following the mystery as to why one of the girls survived, we're slowly taken across a story of intrigue trying as Kyoko tries to figure out what is happening to save her best friend Saya. There is quite a little bit of hype around this in the horror community as one of the best jisatsu genre one-shots, and similar stances, and although I thoroughly enjoyed this, I feel like it fell a little flat.

We go from a simple suicide club plot line to an intricate maze of clues and frankly I feel like it was a little bit far fetched for what Usamaru tried to do with the story.

The art was well done and the gore scenes definitely caught my attention. I skimmed this more than I read it, looking through the art and not paying much attention and I still managed to understand and get the entire story. It's simple enough to understand, simple enough to read, and it has a decent presence.

I'm not quite sure what was a little lacking in this for me. I believe it was the plot point that Usumaru went for in his work, the overall why they were doing this and it didn't feel as authentic as it could have done. Still, it's a good three and a half stars out of five for me, chilling to flick through, but not as prime as it could have been.

Three stars because I can see the potential of it if it was stretched a little bit. No problem with short stories but this seems like rushed and that made me quite disappointed.

However, the concept was great! It is disturbing and bizarre and you could really feel that as you read along and that's great because that's what its all about.

There's a light in all the darkness so you just have to keep an open mind while reading this but in the end this story is just gonna play with your mind.. I also Three stars because I can see the potential of it if it was stretched a little bit. It doesn't have a personal commentary so that's why I put my blabbering here in Goodreads, hahaha This wasn't something I set out to read, I stumbled across is and since it's a quick read I found myself finishing it.

I'm finding it tough to rate, so I'm going to stick with the middle ground 3. When one of 54 suicidal girls survives a jump in front of an oncoming train, it's up to her best friend to pull her out of her depression before the cycle starts again. It's very dark and rather depressing. From an artistry standpoint, This wasn't something I set out to read, I stumbled across is and since it's a quick read I found myself finishing it. From an artistry standpoint, I thought it was very well done.

The illustration is dark and bleak, this worked for me in the sense that it reflected the overall mood of the story. It was ok. Predictable, slightly creepy, short. Not the best horror manga I've read. Jan 06, Jamie rated it really liked it Shelves: manga. A stunning thriller that is difficult to put down, I ended up reading it in one sitting.

The story follows Kyoko as she watches the descent of her childhood best friend, Saya, the only survivor of a mass suicide. Kyoko finds herself pulled deeper into the mysteries of a suicide cult as she attempts to save Saya. No, the real horror here is psychological. Saya and the other girls of the suicide circle are suffering from depression, feeling that they have no one that they can talk to. The group quickly becomes a mob driven insane with devotion to each other, like a hive.

I think that the concept for this manga was good, and it deals very directly with the dangers of apathy. Despite my praise, I do feel that this manga is lacking in some aspects.

While the story is about Saya, it is told from the point of view of Kyoko, limiting the narrative. I would have liked for more time to be taken to develop the two main characters. Overall though, I had a hard time deciding how to rate this manga. I initially wanted to rate it lower because of the poor character development, but after letting the story settle in my mind for a few hours, I pushed my rating higher for the sheer insanity of the cult which makes this manga really stand out.

The only positive thing about Jisatsu Circle is the fact that it is only one volume long, so once you finish the first volume you are done. To me, there was nothing unique or compelling to the storyline, and all of the characters were unlikable.
